About the Role
Position Overview
The Art Teacher for K1 through 6th grade is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive visual arts program that fosters creativity, self-expression, and artistic skills across all elementary levels. The teacher creates a structured and inspiring environment where students explore different techniques, materials, and cultural perspectives in art, aligned with the school’s mission and international standards.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate art lessons for K1–6
Teach a range of techniques (drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, etc.)
Foster creativity, self-expression, artistic confidence, and appreciation for the arts
Integrate cultural and global perspectives into instruction
Adapt teaching to meet diverse learning and developmental needs
Maintain a safe, organized, and inspiring art classroom environment
Establish routines for the use, care, and storage of materials and equipment
Monitor student progress and provide constructive, age-appropriate feedback
Support development of fine motor and artistic skills, especially in early grades
Display student work to celebrate learning and creativity
Collaborate with teachers on interdisciplinary projects and school initiatives
Contribute to school events, exhibitions, and activities
Family Support and Communication
Communicate student progress and participation when needed
Share student artwork and achievements with families
Support a positive perception of the arts within the school community
Participate in school events where family engagement is present
Program Administration
Plan and manage art materials and supply needs effectively
Maintain inventory and request materials in a timely manner
Ensure proper use and storage of resources
Follow school policies, schedules, and procedures
Maintain organization of student work and classroom documentation

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field
Teaching certification (preferred)
Minimum 2–3 years of teaching experience (elementary preferred)
Experience working with a wide age range (early childhood to upper elementary)
Apple certified teacher (tech-savvy)
Skills and Competencies
Strong knowledge of visual arts techniques and materials
Ability to adapt instruction across developmental stages (K1–6)
Classroom management across multiple grade levels

Faculty
The International American School of Cancun maintains a highly trained professional staff, composed of teachers from the U.S., Mexico, England, and Canada. Thirty-three percent of the teachers hold a graduate degree. These teachers support the efforts of the school community to provide an American model of education in a bilingual, bicultural setting. The school enjoys a blend of staff members who are permanent residents of Cancun and others with shorter time commitments, as well as diversity in age and experience.
